It’s for the Birds: Birding on Plum Island

Leader: Bill Gette
Program includes: Friday dinner – Sunday lunch

August 20-22 (Friday dinner – Sunday lunch)

The Parker River National Wildlife Refuge, located on Plum Island, just minutes from Adelynrood, is a world-famous destination for viewing wildlife. This refuge is a vital stopover point for thousands of birds that migrate along the Atlantic coast during both spring and fall migrations. We will have two guided field trips on Plum Island where we should see Greater and Lesser yellowlegs, Semipalmated and Black-bellied plovers, White-rumped Sandpipers, Short-billed Dowitchers and many more species, including migratory songbirds. This weekend will also include an Introduction to Birdwatching program to prepare you for our exciting birding adventures and a Sunday morning program about the ecology of the Great Marsh. Field trips will require 2 to 3 hours of walking and standing. Bring binoculars. Inexperienced birders are encouraged to participate.
